Katsushika Hokusai
Kindergarten & First Grades enjoyed creating Panda Bear collages and paintings.
Literature: Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin,
Second Grade-Students used symmetry and shape to create Kimono compositions.
Literature: Suki's Kimono by Chieri Uegaki.
Third Grade-Third graders had a wonderful time drawing a dragon and painting it with tempera brilliant paints. Literature: The Great Wave by Veronique Massenot.
Fourth & Fifth Grades-Introduction to Hokusai and Asian inspired art. They used line and shape to create a realistic Koi Fish.
Sixth & Seventh Grades-Introduction to the works of Hokusai. Students observed and discussed "The Great Wave off Kanagawa". They used lines, shapes, perspective, movement and value to create their own Great Wave. They used splatter technique as a final touch!
Seventh Grade - Suminagashi - the ancient art of Japanese marbling. Also, watercolor paintings of the White House in time for Inauguration Day.
Eighth Grade-Students finished their Winter Windows collaborative works. Clay Japanese Koi fish.
