Chagall & Kandinsky
Kindergarten, First and Second Grades - Students enjoyed exploring the color wheel! They learned how to mix primary colors to create secondary colors. They created beautiful painted shapes and Kandinsky type concentric circles. Literature: "The Dot", "Art" and "Mouse Paint"
Third Grade - Students enjoyed their introduction to the surreal art of Marc Chagall. They used lines and shapes to create their own surrealist rooster. Literature - "Journey on a Cloud".
Fourth Grade - Students observed and discussed the craftsmanship of "Matryoshka Dolls" They used line, shape, pattern, color and repetition to create their own Matryoshka Doll paintings!
Fifth Grade - Lines, lines, lines! Students observed the architecture of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. They created their own St. Basil's drawing using overlapping technique and used black marker to create a variety of patterns.
Sixth Grade - Students were inspired by the surreal dreamscapes of Marc Chagall to create their own chalk surrealism "dreamscapes". They divided their palette into warm and cool colors and used personal elements to create a unique design.
Seventh Grade - Students discussed samples of Kandinsky's art. They created a musical instrument collage. They discussed negative space and balance. They applied torn sheet music to their collages!
Eighth Grade - Students observed and discussed the history and architecture of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. They created line drawings using shapes, patterns and details. They used warm/cool color palette to finish.
