Pre-K and Kindergarten -Literature - "Bill and Pete Go Down the Nile" by Tomie dePaola - The children will enjoy learning about Nile Crocodiles! They will draw and cut out a crocodile inspired by these animals that have lived in Egypt for thousands of years! Lotus flower watercolor.
Grade 1 - Literature - "Mummy Cat" by Marcus Ewert. Students will learn about line and draw the contour line of a royal Egyptian cat! They will learn about pattern and add designs to the cat's headpiece! Clay mummy cats!
Grade 2 - Literature -"The Little Hippo" by Geraldine Elschner. Students will create their own drawing of a hippo inspired by the hippo sculptures found in the tombs of pharaohs in Egypt.

Grade 3 - Students will enjoy spelling out their names using hieroglyphs! They will create a cartouche similar to those carved into ancient Egyptian statues!
Grade 4 - Literature - "The Shipwrecked Sailor" by Tamara Bower. In ancient Egyptian art, boats were common because they were such an important part of daily life along the Nile River. Our project will capture the essence of Egyptian boat art through line and balance and will even include making a printed fish stamp!
Grade 5 - Students will learn about observation drawing and use a grid to help create proportion in their Egyptian figure drawings. They will gelli print them with tempera paint.
Grade 6 - Students will understand that the ancient Egyptians built pyramids as tombs for the pharaohs. They will know that there are over 100 pyramids in Egypt and know that the largest is outside of Giza and is over 450 feet tall! We will talk about form and create a collage with pyramids that have the illusion of form by adding shadows. Clay sarcophagus project.
Grade 7 - Students will understand that the ancient Egyptian headdresses were reserved for the Pharaoh and royalty. They signified importance and power and were worn for special occasions, events, battles and religious ceremonies. We will discuss Egyptian portraiture and they will create their own profile or frontal portrait with headdress!
Grade 8 - Sarcophagus drawing. We will discuss the after-life customs that were a large part of the Egyptian culture. Students will know that ancient Egyptians buried their dead in elaborately decorated sarcohphagi. They will draw a sarcophagus and use patterns, symbols and colors to tell a story.
