Pre-K & Kinders - Literature - "Philipe in Monet's Garden" by Lisa Jobe Carmack. In this lesson the children will draw simple shapes to create flowers. They will create tints by dipping their paintbrush into a color and then adding white!
Grades 1 - Literature - "The Magical Garden of Claude Monet" by Laurence Anholt. The children will create a Monet water lily collage using paint, scrap paper, tissue paper and glue.
Grade 2 - Monet's Windmills - Students will learn about a horizon line and create a windmill landscape using basic one point perspective with a clear difference between land and sky.
Lit. - "The Magical Garden of Claude Monet".
Grade 3 - Literature - "Linnea in Monet's Garden" by Christine Bjork. Students will create a tape resist Japanese bridge. They will understand that Monet used lots of colors and short brush strokes to mimic the colors in his Japanese water garden.
Grade 4 - In this lesson students will start by observing the works of Monet, especially "Regatta at Argenteuil," 1872. They will create their own sailboats reflection monoprint.
Grade 5 - Fantastical Japanese Bridge watercolor resist. Students will understand the art movement Impressionism and painting "en plein air." They will add their own personality to this popular impressionist painting.
Grade 6 - Impressionist waterscape. Students will understand that Monet loved painting outside and was fascinated by how light affects color. Although famous for paintings of haystacks and lilypads, Monet painted many waterscapes also! This lesson uses tempera paint and double-loading technique.
Grade 7 - Students will learn about the artist Claude Monet and the art movement Impressionism. They will be able to identify some of his most famous works. They will create a landscape inspired by "Magpie." They will use masking tape to create the shapes of birch trees. They will paint around and over the tape and then peel if off to reveal the trees!
Grade 8 - As is tradition, students will begin their chalk drawings of the face of Jesus. These will be on display for the Easter season.
