Pre-K -Literature - "You Be You" by Linda Kranz. The children enjoyed adding lines, shapes and patterns to their fish outlines. Next week they will cut them out and add bubble eyes!
Kindergarten - Inspired by Jeff Koons' balloon dogs, the children traced and cut out a series of ovals. They added paint shadows to give their dog the illusion of a round, shiny form!
Grade 1 - Inspired by Heather Galler's colorful contemporary artwork, the students created hot, steamy cups of tea! They used lots of repetition in their lines, shapes and patterns!
Grade 2 - Literature - "Maybe Something Beautiful" by Isabel Campoy. This project is good, old-fashioned fun! The students learned about Jeff Koons and his giant balloon animal sculptures. They learned that some of his giant sculptures are displayed outside so a cityscape seemed the perfect background for their collaged dogs!
Grade 3 - Contemporary Artists Power Point. Everyone had a wonderful time creating a 'cup of tea' still life! The students added steam to their tea cups/mugs and many patterns to their background. They used oil chalks to create a checkerboard tablecloth!
Grade 4 - "Maybe Something Beautiful" illustrated by Rafael Lopez. This lesson is inspired by the organic shapes and vibrant color in Rafael Lopez's murals. Students started out by identifying geometric and organic shapes. They will draw a mural and then collage themselves into their artwork!
Grade 5 - In our power point, students observed Damien Hirst's art installation housing a real tiger shark! Inspired by this unique piece of contemporary art, they will use their observation skills to capture the values and lines they see to draw and paint a shark in a tank!
Grade 6 - Grade 6 students will be drawing and painting a wet, shaking dog! They will use splatter technique and finger painting to add their finishing touches. Inspiration for this contemporary project comes from Iris Scott. Power point - Contemporary artists.
Grade 7 - Complementary color wrapped produce - This colorful project is based on painter Janet Fish's still life series featuring hyper-realistic, plastic wrapped produce! Students will focus on blending, adding value and using bright white highlights to mimic the look of plastic wrap. Contemporary Artists Power Point.
Grade 8 - As is tradition, students will begin this month with a chalk drawing of the face of Jesus to be displayed during the Lenten Season. They will then begin their circle collage project inspired by Frank Stella. They will use colored paper, paint and markers to add layers of interest to this dynamic collage!
