Pre K - The children started of the month of May making beautiful stamped flowers using celery, onions, carrots, potatoes, mushrooms and even asparagus to do the stamping! Medieval art in pre-K means watercolor fire breathing dragons!! Literature - "The Popcorn Dragon" by Jane Thayer
Kindergarten - King and Queen self portraits! Literature - "The Enchanted Kingdom" by Guido Visconti
Grade 1 - Simple stained glass window. The children will create a symmetrical shaped window. Using bingo daubers they will add colors and lines to make the center shape the focal point.
Grade 2 - Literature - "The Jester Has lost His Jingle" by David Saltzman. A fun lesson drawing and painting a court jester! They will add six colored juggling balls in rainbow order! Galileo's Window - This project highlights the tool Galileo used to make so many important discoveries - the telescope! The children enjoyed embossing their tin foil moon with craters, speckling their sky with stars and framing everything in a window.
Grade 3 - Students will trace the Mona Lisa. They will focus on adding value with chalk. Finally, they will add a bold colorful background for contrast! They also finished their vegetable stamp flowers in a vase!
Grade 4 - Students will enjoy making banners similar to the ones flown during Medieval and Renaissance times! Using Medieval and Renaissance books in the classroom they will design a mixed media collage using paint, paper and ribbons for their banner.
Grade 5 - Royal Grid Drawing - Students will draw playing cards in an enlarged format using grid drawing, which was developed during the Renaissance. Creating the grid on the playing card and paper is a wonderful math connection in the art room!
Grade 6 - The emphasis of this project is the detailed Temple of Solomon, which will give the students the opportunity to draw Renaissance architecture. Powerpoint - Medieval and Renaissance Art. Inspiration - Perugino's "Christ Giving the Keys to St. Peter" 1481, fresco, Sistine Chapel, Vatican City, Rome.
Grade 7 - Notre Dame at Night. This project highlights the light shows that are occasionally projected on the Cathedral. Students will learn about Gothic architecture, rose windows and water spouts called gargoyles.
Grade 8 - Chalk portraits of the Blessed Mother.
