Pre-K- The children enjoyed the story of "The Honeybee" by Kirsten Hall. They made a collage of three apples on a tablecloth! They loved "Little Boo" by Stephen Wunderli. They cut out funny face pumpkins and added glow in the dark glue!
Kindergarten - The children loved the story of "Little Boo" by Stephen Wunderli. They began their paintings of pumpkins at night! "Manana Iguana" Watercolor of a "tortuga"!
Grade 1 - Video "American Robin - Bird Nest Build". The children will use "balance" to build a bird's nest around a central point on their paper. They will add lots of texture by adding yarn, paper, leaves and clay. They will also begin their spider web color wheels!
Grade 2 - The students loved the story of "The Beeman" by Laurie Krebs. They understand that bees play a key role in nature! They used bubble wrap to stamp honeycomb backgrounds for their bee drawings! "Spiders" by Carolyn Otto. Painted color wheel spiderwebs! "Bear Hug" by Katharine McEwen. The children drew a forest scene complete with bears, fox and autumn leaves!
Grade 3 - "The Honeybee" by Kirsten Hall. The students drew a simple honeybee and created a beautiful floral background. They understand that bees pollinate fruit, vegetables and flowers!
Grade 4 - Literature - "Over and Under the Pond" by Kate Messner. This lesson offers opportunities to visually display a cross-section of the elements in a pond ecosystem and discuss how these elements depend on each other.
Grade 5 - Phases of the moon - Students will create a scientific collage inspired by the changing appearance of the moon. They will apply "glow in the dark" paint to emphasize the lit part of the moon. They observed and discussed works by Frida Kahlo and began their chalk portraits of her.
Grade 6 - Cyanotype printing - We will use light sensitive paper and let the sun create the print! Students will gather a selection of leaves, flowers & feathers for their prints. We also watched a video on George Rodrigue and started the "Blue Dog" paintings.
Grade 7 - Students will talk about gems and rocks and create artwork inspired by their varied natural substances. They will use polygonal shapes and either a warm or cool watercolor palette.
Grade 8 - Students will use an "observational window" technique to draw an object from nature. They will use hatching and cross-hatching to add value.
