Kindergarten and First Grades - Literature: "Swatch, The Girl Who Loved Color" by Julia Denos, "The Cat and Bird" by Geraldine Eischer
Review the color wheel and create color wheel turtles!
Grades 2 and 3 - Students will create an abstract fish in the style of Paul Klee's "The Seafarer". They will add straight and angled lines. They will finish their composition with a "warm" and "cool" watercolor resist.
Grades 4 and 5 - Students will observe and discuss Klee's abstract art. The will use geometric shapes to create an abstract work in the style of "Senecio". They will use recycled gift cards to create the layered tempera background!
Grades 6 - "The Cat and the Bird" A favorite project creating a chalk drawing of a cat and bird. Review, discuss and identify Klee's "Seafarer", "Senecio", "Castle and Sun".
Grade 7 - Mixed media "Castle and Sun" using paint and chalks to create a composition of horizontal, vertical and asymmetrical lines. Identify many works of Klee.
Grade 8 - Chalk drawings of the face of Christ for display through the Lent season. Review Klee's abstracts. Use a variety of lines and tempera paints to create an original abstract.
