Students drew hatchlings making the long trip to the sea. They used watercolor, tempera paint, oil chalk and an overlapping technique to give their compositions a sense of space.

Students practiced a smeared technique with chalk pastel to show glowing, rolling waves. They also practiced blending techniques to create a night sky and it's reflection in the water. They finished off with a splatter painted starry sky!

In addition to creating a beautiful lighthouse, students used a layered, spray painted technique for the background. They used sponge painted paper torn into strips for the island rocks and simple shading to give the illusion of form and make their lighthouse look more realistic!

Students enjoyed using watercolor and shaving cream to create their sketchbook covers inspired by traditional Turkish paper marbling, called EBRU. They also used a Turkish map fold technique for the inside of their book. Not just a sketchbook, they are also beautiful paper sculptures.
