Pre-Kinders - The children loved the story "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds. They had fun using dot markers to "dot" their names! We also read "I'm NOT just a Scribble" by Diane Alber. The children loved making "scribble people" and adding fun face stickers to their work.
Kindergarten - The children enjoyed the stories of "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes and dotting their names. They also enjoyed "Mouse Paint" by Ellen Stoll Walsh. They learned their color mixing song. They also used a Q-Tip "mouse" to mix primary colors and create secondary colors!
Grades 1 & 2 - "A Beetle is Shy" by Dianna Hutts Aston. The children practiced many lines and patterns in their sketchbooks. They then drew a realistic beetle and used markers to create interesting designs!
Grades 3 - Folk Art Cats - Literature: "Swatch, The Girl Who Loved Color" by Julia Denos. The students drew folk art cats and added many colorful lines and patterns. They created a collage by adding painted paper radial patterned flowers and leaves.
Grade 4 - Folk Art Roosters - Students drew a simple rooster and embellished it with colorful lines and patterns. They added a colorful tissue paper background.
Grade 5 - Wild and Wacky Hair! - In this lesson students are learning about types of lines and how repeating lines can create detailed patterns. This project is an expressive portrait and the students enjoy adding lots of fun personality to their portrait with the addition of wild hair!
Grades 6 & 7 - Mixed-up Animal Sketch! - In this lesson students combine the front and back of animal bodies to create a new type of animal! Simple black & white line drawings contrast the colorful paper backgrounds.
Grade 8 - Students will practice grid-drawing and recreate a famous piece of artwork using observation drawing for each square on the grid.
